10 Best Mark Ruffalo Performances
2. Cam Stuart - Infinitely Polar Bear (2014)
Mark Ruffalo's ability to play troubled, complex but endearing men is close to unrivalled by many modern actors. Never is that more clear than in 2014's Infinitely Polar Bear, where he portrays Cameron Stuart, a man diagnosed with bipolar disorder who must tackle his condition whilst raising his two young daughters and struggling with his marriage.
The film gives frank insight into a disorder rarely portrayed in cinema, and with Ruffalo being at the centre of the story, Infinitely Polar Bear makes for a deeply moving, funny and sweet comedy-drama about family, mental health and relationships.
As Cam, Ruffalo is energetic, funny, insightful and loving. He's enthusiastic (often intensely so) and constantly at odds with his life, his responsibilities as a father and his short-loved hobbies. There are moments when he's almost tough to like, but thanks to the sensitivity brought to the role by Ruffalo, Cam is nonetheless an endearing figure in this clever, understated drama.
