10 Best Movie Deaths Of 2021

There are a number of memorable and brilliantly executed deaths in Denis Villeneuve's Dune adaptation, but none more so than that of Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), the father of protagonist Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet).

Leto ends up being double-crossed by Dr. Wellington Yueh (Chang Chen), who incapacitates him and delivers him to Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) in order to free his own imprisoned wife.

However, Yueh also replaces one of Leto's teeth with a capsule containing poison gas, and after the Baron murders Yueh, a traumatised, tortured Leto bites down on the capsule.

This fills the Baron's court with poison gas, killing his various minions - including Piter De Vries (David Dastmalchian) - but the Baron himself is able to survive because he quickly raises his shield once he realises what Leto is doing.

It's a death at once badass, intense, and tragic: Leto's parting words - "Here I am, here I remain" - certainly leave a lingering impact, as do Isaac's steely performance and Hans Zimmer's bracingly dramatic score.
