10 Best Movie Marketing Campaigns Ever

1. The Blair Witch Project - Fact or Fiction?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8iGL-0phxM Excellent though all of these campaigns were, none of them can possibly live up to the one that started it all, the marketing campaign that took full advantage of the Internet's power, while also drawing upon people's lack of exposure to the found footage gimmick. The combination resulted in many audiences coming to believe that the film they were going to see was, in fact, footage of people who actually died - police reports and evidence files on the website aimed to enhance the apparent authenticity of the film, and exploiting our over-active imaginations, managed to scare the Hell out of us before the film even hit the screen. I fondly recall hiring the DVD when it first hit my local rental score (I was 11 years old), and fully believing that it was real footage; I may have been a naive boy, but even grown adults came to believe that this actually happened. As such, it's the greatest trick of movie marketing ever executed, and given how net-savvy we all are now, it's unlikely we'll ever see something so brilliant ever again. Shame.
