The most unusual but ultimately inspired bit of casting on this list sees Jason Segel, an actor best known for his light comedy in the likes of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Sex Tape, take on David Foster Wallace, perhaps the most troubled, defining, genius writer of his generation. Adapted from David Lipskys book (And of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself) screenwriter, Donald Marguiles, has crafted perhaps the finest screenplay of the year, and in doing so gifts the actor with some fantastic dialogue to really disappear into (this is what happens when you let a playwright write a movie). Segel is genuinely affecting as Wallace, perfectly capturing the writers brand of next-level intelligence and his everyman, acutely-aware-of-his-own-neuroses persona. He doesnt look too much like DFW, but his performance (opposite a brilliant Jesse Eisenberg as Lipsky) as him is near faultless, the actor sincerely believable as one of contemporary Americas great minds.
