10 Best Movie Prequels Ever

1. The Godfather Part II

Temple Of Doom Black Sleep
Paramount Pictures

It's technically a sequel, but The Godfather Part II is all prequel.

The Godfather Part II is viewed as one of the greatest movies of all-time, and is largely viewed as the greatest of the entire Godfather trilogy - which in itself is huge praise.

What makes The Godfather Part II so special, is the way that so much of the film is spent in the past, fleshing out the character of Vito Corleone. And as that young Vito, Robert De Niro puts in one of the greatest performances of his career as he apes the antics and mannerisms of Marlon Brando.

For De Niro imitating Brando, that alone should have The Godfather Part II high up on this list of great prequels. Throw in the stunning present day scenes of Al Pacino's Don Michael Corleone relishing in power, and it's easy to see why this film is rightly viewed as one of the best in the history of cinema.

In spending so much time looking at Vito's rise to power, mirroring with Michael's rise to dominance, The Godfather Part II is most definitely a prequel - and most definitely the greatest prequel imaginable.
