10 Best Movie Prequels Ever

6. Monsters University

Temple Of Doom Black Sleep
Pixar

It takes a special sort of cold-hearted soul to not get even a slight smile on their face from 2001's Monsters, Inc., and the exact same thing can be said for the film's 2013 prequel.

Monsters University may have taken 12 years to arrive, but it was certainly worth the wait. But rather than giving fans a straight-up sequel, Disney Pixar decided to go back in time and deliver a prequel in which Mike and Sulley's college days are the main attraction.

These future BFFs go the ol' cliched route of starting off hating each other, but, wouldn't you know it, they ultimately end up realising that they've got more in common than they both first thought. And it makes for such a fun, entertaining, and sincere story.

For Mike, he's from a struggling family and is busting his ass off to make it as a scarer. On the other side of this particular coin, we have the lazy, privileged Sulley who relies on his natural, genetics-given ability to scare the pants off of people.

Where great prequels are concerned, you can't not look at Monsters University when discussing that topic.
