10 Best Movie Sequels That Took Decades To Arrive - Ranked

5. The Color Of Money (1986)

Star Wars The Force Awakens BB-8
Touchstone Pictures/Silver Screen Partners II

The Previous Film: The Hustler (1961)

While it's nowhere near Martin Scorsese's finest work, The Color Of Money is a breakneck movie infused with the memorable visual flair we've now come to expect from the great director.

Scorsese excels at taking potentially dull subject matter and injecting it with life, and The Color Of Money is no different. A simple story about pool hustler Eddie Felson and the young maverick he takes under his wing, the two-hour runtime will absolutely fly by, and although the film doesn't have a whole lot to say, its pure entertainment value cannot be denied.

It also features Tom Cruise and Paul Newman giving career-best performances (Newman won an Oscar for his part), and the two capably carry the film on their shoulders. This isn't as good as The Hustler, but there's something alluring about Scorsese's work that gives this entry a style and charm its predecessor lacks.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
