9. Queen Ravenna - Snow White and the Huntsman
Snow White and the Huntsman told a familiar story in a completely different, unexpected way, and a lot of the credit for its success goes to Charlize Theron, easily the best actor in the entire piece, and who easily outshines the protagonists as far as conviction and steeliness goes. As the evil Queen Ravenna, Theron is clearly having a lot of fun, hamming up the role sufficiently that she comes across as arrogant and tyrannical, while also proving greatly amusing; it's clear above all else that Theron is having a great time in the role, a very welcome one given how rarely she plays villains these days. So effectively is she, in fact, that many found themselves struggling to buy that Kristen Stewart's Snow White was "the fairest of them all" given how appealing Theron is by comparison. Superbly cast as a classic villain of movie lore, she is a major reason why the film works so surprisingly well.
