5. Loki - The Avengers
Tom Hiddleston's Loki might not be the most physically imposing of the year's villains, but he's without question one of the most fun to watch; arriving to Earth to steal the Tesseract to fulfil a deal he made with the Chitauri so that he can have his own alien army to control Earth, his motivations are relatively simple, but it's the manner in which they unfold that makes him such a joy to behold. Though Loki spends a fair amount of time in the film captured by The Avengers, this also allows for some of the film's best dialogue, as he tries to shove a wedge in between the various members, while fan theories have surfaced around the Internet that just perhaps he allowed himself to be captured at the end of the movie, and this would presumably play into Thor 2 next year. Played with the over-the-top menace that the role required, Hiddleston is super-fun to watch both in his character's successes and failures, perhaps most memorably as he insults The Hulk, only to be slammed around like a ragdoll.
