10 Best Movie Villains of 2012

2. Raoul Silva - Skyfall

The second Javier Bardem was cast as the villain of Skyfall, we knew it was going to be great, and the world-class actor didn't disappoint as the deliciously demented Raoul Silva, a former MI6 spy who turned against them after being hung out to dry by Judi Dench's M. Being forced to take his cyanide capsule, it nevertheless didn't kill him, but simply burned up his insides as well as part of his face, causing him to have a revolting facial implant, a flourish that fits well within the pantheon of disfigured Bond villains. Watching Silva's plan unfold, there's the distinct feeling that it's reminiscent of Heath Ledger's The Joker, cleverly convoluted and brilliantly anarchic, while Silva is, like The Joker, an absolute blast to watch on screen. Arguably his best moment comes during the initial confrontation scene with Bond, where he unleashes some unexpected flirtation onto Bond, a tactic intended to make the spy feel even more uncomfortable than he already is.
