9. The Young Victoria
When most people think of Queen Victoria, they think of a squat elderly woman shrouded in black, shouting crossly at people about their improprieties and arranging her kids to be married to every king, duchess, and prince across Europe. While that's largely accurate, a lot of people forget that Victoria was young once, too. In fact, she inherited the throne from her uncle at the tender age of 18. Emily Blunt takes on the lead role in The Young Victoria, giving the heiress presumptive (and later queen) charm and intelligence that provide a glimpse of the powerful ruler she would become. The filmmakers strived to be as historically accurate as possible, nabbing Oscar nominations for Art Direction, Makeup, and Costume Design. It's a thoughtful, interesting view of a period of Victoria's life that many overlook.
