10 Best Movies About The British Monarchy

7. Becket

Becket-inside If there's any cast of a film that I'd love to go get a drink with, it would have to be Becket. It stars Richard Burton as Thomas Becket and Peter O'Toole as King Henry II. Can you even imagine the shenanigans that must have gone on while they were filming this movie? Anyway, Becket and Henry II were the best of buds for a good long time. Henry's bored with his royal life, so Becket, a Saxon commoner, arranges debaucheries to keep the king entertained. Everyone's happy. Henry also hates the current Archbishop of Canterbury, who keeps fighting him on the taxation necessary for Henry to keep up the war with the French. When the archbishop dies, Henry appoints Becket as his replacement, thinking that he'll take the king's side. Not so much. This leads to quite a bit of yelling, storming about, and less-than-comic misunderstandings, finally culminating in one seriously dead archbishop.
