10 Best Movies Actors Did After Harry Potter
9. Dunkirk – Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart)
Dunkirk is an outlier in Christopher Nolan’s filmography. Aside from The Dark Knight Trilogy, the director is best-known for sci-fi movies with hefty screenplays and complex themes. Dunkirk, on the other hand, is more straightforward.
It’s a short, simple story about the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940 (also known as Operation Dynamo). The characters aren’t given much depth, but that’s the point. They’re meant to represent average soldiers, hence why the main character is called ‘Tommy’.
Kenneth Branagh, meanwhile, plays Commander Bolton, who is one of the more interesting characters thanks to his measured delivery and some well-written dialogue. Based on a real-life man called Captain William Tennant, he acts as the voice of reason during the chaos of the evacuation.
From a technical perspective, Dunkirk is everything you’d expect from a Nolan movie. It’s beautifully shot and there are some truly breath-taking vistas which make up for the rather thin screenplay.
