This is how you make a biopic. Instead of filtering through the myth and legend of an icon to find the 'truth' behind the persona, Todd Haynes embraced the complicated and multifaceted incarnations of Bob Dylan.

This approach probably came as close to getting at the real Dylan than any strait-laced documentary could possibly hope to. With six actors playing six versions of the Dylan character, Haynes depicts the many faces he presented to the public over the years. In a non linear structure the film was split into six chapters. Some examine the more conventionally recognised personas of the Like a Rolling Stone singer, where as others serve as metaphorical representation of Dylan's internal reconciliations with who he was to the public.

Among the big hitters selected to play the different aspects of Dylan, were Christian Bale, Heath Ledger and Cate Blanchett. Up front this seemed like a bizarre choice, but Blanchett is a master of her craft. She embodied a worn out and swaggering persona. Her contribution represented the icon when he was at his most polarising , ridiculed by his fans and critics for going electric but still the most sort after performer of the '60s.

If you watch this movie only for Blanchett's performance it will be worth your time.
