10 Best Movies Named After Popular Songs
7. Dazed And Confused
As Peggy Sue Got Married shows, if you want to make a nostalgic high school movie then it's always a good idea instantly to create the right vibe by naming your movie after a song that both transports the audience back to the time period musically and has a name that relates to the movie's story. So it is with Richard Linklater's Dazed And Confused.
Although a folk-rock version was originally written in 1967 by Jake Holmes (the singer-songwriter best known for advertising jingles like the US Army's "be all that you can be"), the song Dazed And Confused is best known for its psychedelic bluesy incarnation on Led Zeppelin's debut album. And it's this version which obviously serves as the inspiration for Linklater's movie.
Dazed And Confused the movie happens around a Texas high school in 1976 in a hazy day of getting high, cruising around and listening to heavy rock (although not the song of the title, as Linklater failed to persuade the surviving members of Zeppelin to give him the rights).
It's a movie largely about capturing a moment in time, and an ensemble cast of high school seniors that's young, dumb and on a threshold of a confusing wider world, and, even without the song ever appearing in the movie, the title seems fitting at the very least.
