Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz in the early 2000s... now that's a beautiful cast. Add in the fact that Cruise portrays a womanising playboy and you've got a premise potent enough to ignite a passionate spark. Aside from all that, though, the film is genuinely unique and interesting, an odd blend of sci-fi and romance.

Vanilla Sky sees Cruise's David Aaomes disfigured in a car crash, telling his life story in a court of law. That may seem a bit severe for Valentine's Day, but the flashback (which makes up basically the whole film) contains a genuinely enthralling love story, and there's enough mystery to keep things exciting.

There's also the fact that the movie makes Tom Cruise seem like a bit of a dick, meaning your date will see you as vastly more likeable, leading to a boost in self-confidence for both parties.
