7. Serendipity

Miramax

There's nothing quite like a John Cusack rom-com to cast an indelible spell of romance between two people. Back in the late '80s and '90s, Cusack was a brilliantly charming lead, confident enough to be appealing but with the ability to pull off that whole €'down on his luck'€ shtick in order to come across as sympathetic and relatable.

When it comes to slightly more vintage rom-coms, then, Serendipity is a great pick. The premise might be cheesy €- following two people who become attracted to each other despite already having partners and deciding that if they're meant to be together they'll meet again €- but the relationship between Cusack's Jonathan Trager and Kate Beckinsale's Sara Thomas is completely captivating. Serendipity trades explicit sex jokes and a general tackiness for genuine humour and tenderness.

There's a magic to Serendipity that is sure to leap from the screen to reality, resulting in something memorable. That's if both parties don't fall for Cusack - who can resist his boyish optimism and belief in the power of true love?
