10 Best Opening Credits Sequences In Movie History

7. Grease

Movies don't get any more upbeat than Grease, and the 1978 classic still possesses a charming, incredibly watchable vibe 38 years later. A big part of this is down to the film's opening credits, an animated jaunt through the life of a 1970's high-school kid that's set to the toe-tapping beat of Frankie Valli's 'Grease' and effortlessly gets you in the mood for what's to come.

Grease is a good movie, but its central love story - between Danny and Sandy - is pretty cheesy; it's the music that sells the product. The creators of the title sequence clearly knew this, because it doesn't really have anything to do with the star-crossed pair at all. It's just pure feel-good pie that's edible even if you've never seen the movie, with the combination of saturated colours, dancing sprites and upbeat song likely to cheer you up even after the most miserable of days.

Creepy animated John Travolta aside (seriously, he's staring into your soul), this wouldn't look out of place on Saturday morning television, and it's surprising that the studio didn't cash in after the film's astronomical success. Grease is definitely the word.
