10 Best Road Trip Horror Movies
3. Road Games
Looks like it's time to return to the Australian outback, and this time, it's to catch a killer, not fall victim to one.
Road Games is a tense horror-thriller that follows Pat Quaid (Stacy Keach), an American truck driver who travels across Australia. While on a routine trip, he encounters a man in a van who he believes is butchering women and dumping their bodies along the desolate highway. With the help of a hitchhiker - played by the ever-charming Jamie Lee Curtis - he sets out to catch the killer red-handed.
There is a distinct feeling of vigilantism which makes the film compelling, as you get suckered in by Keach in the leading role. He is so desperate and determined to catch this killer, and you are equally chomping at the bit to see the mystery solved. This is further accented by Curtis' Pamela, who is just as wise and tough in her pursuits.
Part of what makes this an above-average suspense horror is that it revolves around the pursuit of a villain. It's rare to see a serial killer horror that focusses on the quest for justice, rather than the exploits of the killer. This gives Road Games a Hitchcock vibe, making it feel like Rear Window on wheels.
