Woman in Gold is a 2015 drama about Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren), an elderly widow who attempts to reclaim a family painting. In her quest, Maria enlists the help of Randy Schoenberg, a lawyer with little experience who tries everything in his power to return Maria's painting to her.

The film is very heartfelt and bittersweet, focusing on the Second World War and how the painting the pair seek was a part of the family before they were captured by the Nazis. Randy, despite his lack of experience, makes numerous attempts to save the painting and allow Maria to hold onto something from her tragic past.

In the role, Reynolds is at his most subdued. There is no comedy, no fast-talking and little dry wit. Rather, this is a performance that finds the actor at his most reserved and subtle, working off veteran actress Mirren with startling results. Randy is clever, naive, passionate, hardworking and hard on himself, and Reynolds carries his burdens beautifully.
