10 Best Sci-Fi Horror Movies From The '80s

8. The Hidden

Altered States
New Line Cinema

In The Hidden, a law abiding citizen suddenly goes on a murderous rampage in LA for seemingly no reason. When the police discover similar crimes across the city, they realise this isn't an isolated incident. The cops soon discover these felons are strong enough to withstand injuries that should kill a regular human. As they come face-to-face with the criminals, the cops learn that there is a far greater threat looming on the horizon.

Despite the fact The Hidden has an intriguing premise, it could've been ruined if the mystery was explained too early. Thankfully, the film keeps tight-lipped about the origins of the crime waves until the climax, keeping viewers guessing until the very end. Another interesting aspect about The Hidden is how often it changes genre. It switches from horror to action to sci-fi to mystery thriller quite regularly, preventing the film from becoming formulaic.

Even though The Hidden was a commercial and critical success, it doesn't get as much as attention as other horror flicks of the decade, which is a good reason to give it a look.
