3. A Quiet Place: Part II

As mesmerising as A Quiet Place was, it seemed risky for John Krasinski's directorial debut to spawn a sequel. After all, what could a follow-up do that wasn't simply more of the same?

Luckily, A Quiet Place: Part II was a total triumph. A Quiet Place was very personal, centring around a single family called the Abbots, who are forced to live silently in a world ravaged by aliens with hyper-sensitive hearing.

Rather than rehashing its ideas, Part II has Evelyn Abbott and her children travelling and interacting with other survivors, which expands the lore and offers a better understanding of how this post-apocalyptic world functions. Each member of the family has been through drastic changes since we last saw them, showcasing a different dynamic between them. Now the Abbotts know the extra-terrestrials' weakness, their goal is not just about survival, but getting the word out to defeat these creatures once and for all.

It's more action-heavy this time around, but Krasinski doesn't sacrifice any emotional depth, once again proving his skills as a visual filmmaker. The phenomenal prologue proves the action is of the highest calibre, while also presenting context with how the invasion came to be.

It may not have the same oomph as its predecessor, but A Quiet Place Part II is still one of the strongest horror sequels released recently.
