10 Best Sci-Fi Movies On Netflix Right Now

1. Arrival (2016)

I Am Your Mother
Paramount

The plot of Arrival seems simple on paper: A renowned linguist (Amy Adams) is hired by the US military to converse with an alien race who have landed on Earth. But Arrival was directed by the brilliant Denis Villeneuve, a director unafraid to challenge his audiences, and in time it becomes clear that this is probably his most complex and rewarding film.

An Oscar-nominated Adams is joined by Jeremy Renner and Forest Whittaker, as the lines between reality and fiction begin to blur and time becomes manipulated. What starts out as an intriguing drama about communication and the possibility of extraterrestrial life slowly and methodically morphs into a troubling drama about time, grief and memory.

Arrival - a lot like Inception - is the kind of movie you'll have to watch twice in order to fully understand and appreciate, but if you're willing to take the journey it's definitely one of the best sci-fi films you're ever likely to see.
