9. Oblivion (2013)

Love him or hate him, there's no denying the sheer entertainment value of Tom Cruise's movie output over the last three decades. From the Mission Impossible franchise to such classics as Top Gun and Collateral, the actor's been on top form for what feels like a lifetime, and amongst the obvious all-timers he also has some underappreciated movies to his name.

One of these more hidden gems is 2013's Oblivion, a visually astounding post-apocalyptic action flick in which an engineer (Cruise) comes to question his very existence and the way the world is being run after he encounters a woman (Olga Kurylenko) who keeps popping up in his dreams.

Oblivion makes for a tense and tightly-wound mystery, as Cruise battles violent scavengers and bizarre conspiracies to unravel the secrets of his life and purpose. There are some startling action sequences thrown around for good luck, and though the film stumbles slightly in its final act, it's still a solid slice of blockbuster entertainment.
