10 Best Sherlock Holmes Film Adaptations

6. Ronald Howard

Ronald Howard Sherlock Holmes Ronald Howard played the sleuth for 39 episodes in the TV series, Sherlock Holmes, from 1954 until 1955. In the show, Howard plays a young, fit, and very active Holmes, which is a sharp deviation from typical versions of the character. He is approachable and affable, and an altogether more comfortable detective who always catches the bad guy in under 30 minutes. The show was geared a bit towards kids, which meant it had more comedy and action than other Sherlocks, and less complex intrigue. With a likable lead hero and an intelligent Watson as his partner, the show became quite a hit in the mid-50s, and it still retains a 7.9 rating on IMDb. Though the series was for an English audience, it was actually filmed in France, and was in black and white.
