10 Best Slasher Horror Movie Remakes Of All Time
9. The Hitcher (2007)
The Hitcher (1986) was an eighties cult classic that told the simple story of a young man driving across America who makes the mistake of his life when he picks up a psychopathic hitchhiker, superbly played by the sinister Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) in one of his greatest roles. After having a knife pulled on him whilst driving, Jim (C. Thomas Howell) manages to kick the hitcher out of his vehicle, and naturally thinks his nightmare has ended.
But the hitcher has other plans, and in a sadistic game of cat and mouse stalks Jim along the highway, framing him for a string of murders along the way. The Hitcher (2007) was directed by music video specialist Dave Meyers and produced by Michael Bay (Transformers), and places Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) into the role of the hitchhiking serial killer, who this time terrorises Zachary Knighton's Jim and his girlfriend Grace (Sophie Bush), in an another thriller that hits the spot in just the same way the original did.
The couple innocently help Bean's character out as he has seemingly broken down on a rainy night, but he soon shows his true colours and their horror begins as he pulls out a switchblade and holds it to Grace’s eye. The inclusion of Grace adds an interesting dynamic to the remake, and the movie faithfully recreates many of the key scenes from the original in what is a fast paced and highly engaging movie.
