10 Best Sniper Scenes In Film
2. Saving Private Ryan (Also Again)
Again, I can't stress this enough, it is one of the greatest war films of all time. Any chance to talk about it again should be grasped with both hands.
A film which never shies away from the horrors of war; it gets this message across early as we watch one of our apparent heroes mercilessly gunned down by enemy sniper as he attempts to help a young girl stranded in a desolate building. Vin Diesel's Caparzo displays a moment of compassion and, sadly, that moment is all the sniper needs as he's pinged from near five hundred yards away. The rain beats down on the scene as Caparzo dies inches away from them; and there's nothing they can do about it.
It is hard to watch and deeply humanising as he begs them to deliver his letter to his father. Vin Diesel is perhaps not most famous for his emotional acting but he is on song here and it makes for one of the most memorable and moving scenes in any war movie to date; and it's only about half an hour in!
