10 Best Sports Movies Of The 21st Century

6. Rush

Rush Chris Hemsworth
Universal Pictures

Released: 2013

Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 89%

Based on a true story, Rush relives one of the greatest rivalries in Formula 1 history between Brit James Hunt and Austrian Niki Lauda during the 1976 season.

Chris Hemsworth (Thor) plays the role of playboy James Hunt, a maverick on track who despite his talents, relied upon one thing, raw speed. Lauda on the other hand, despite being undeniably quick, used his technical ability and unique knowledge of F1 engineering to get ahead of his rivals.

The rivalry between Hunt and Lauda is portrayed brilliantly and although Rush was marketed with Chris Hemsworth as the lead character, it is Bruhl’s portrayal of Lauda that steals the show.

Granted, Hemsworth is excellent, but Bruhl acts, sounds and quite scarily, looks identical to ‘The Rat’, a nickname given to the Austrian because of his rat-like appearance. All of Lauda’s scenes are great but one scene post accident will send chills down your spine.
