10 Best Star Wars Deleted Concept Art Scenes They Never Filmed
These concept art Star Wars scenes would've likely shaken up this galaxy far, far away...
Spanning a whopping four decades already, it’s little surprise to discover that a great many unexpectedly fascinating Star Wars beats never made it to the big screen once they’d been initially dreamed into existence via paint brush or pencil.
Yet, with that lack of big or small screen realisation thankfully still comes with it the beautifully crafted concept art that can light up the imaginations of many a fan of this galaxy far, far away. However, you do have to wonder what the already visually stunning universe crafted by George Lucas, Lucasfilm, and Disney could’ve looked like had the following pieces of compelling illustration been doubled down on for the end products that ultimately landed in front of our excitable eyes.
Would the galaxy’s favourite smuggler have catapulted Harrison Ford to global fame in quite the same way if a certain piece of work was given the green light? Could now-iconic exchanges have been taken up a few notches in another setting entirely? We’ll likely never know…
From canvases that stuffed multiple super weapons into our galaxy, to expendable goobers wielding the universe’s most sacred tool, these pieces of concept art very nearly changed Star Wars as you know it forever.
10. Chewie Held Captive By Kylo Ren - The Rise Of Skywalker
For all of the things fans are yet to agree on when it comes to J.J. Abrams' Skywalker Saga-ending The Rise of Skywalker entry, one of the few moments that dealt just about everyone in attendance a seemingly fatal blow was the apparent death of everyone’s favourite Wookie - Chewbacca.
Of course, it later came to pass that Chewie had merely been taken captive and the whole impact is ultimately softened by the eventual rescuing of said loveable hairball. But initial concept art released some time after the ninth episode landed revealed that things actually got a bit dark upon Chewie’s capture.
In said art work, the legendary Wookie was actually intensely interrogated by Kylo Ren. The illustration itself shows Chewie being strung up and likely Force manipulated in a similar fashion to how Rey was in The Force Awakens. Additional metal apparatus can also be seen behind the Original Trilogy icon, hinting at some diabolical tools being used to get Ren the information he so desired.
Though this scene was said to have actually been played out fiercely by Adam Driver on set, as revealed by Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo, fans have yet to witness it for themselves and likely never will…
