10 Best Times Star Wars Appeared In Other TV Shows

9. Rick And Morty

The Office Dwight Schrute Sith Lord
Adult Swim

The zany sci-fi world of Rick and Morty is the perfect setting for some cheeky Star Wars references, and over the years, creator Dan Harmon has indeed littered the show with more than a few nods to that famous galaxy far, far away.

There are several awesome callouts in season three's The Rickchurian Mortydate, with Rick using a weapon that resembles a double-bladed lightsaber during his battle with the President, and another Rick moment where he brokers a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine by taking their leaders to a bar, which is described as:

"[Rick] took them to a Star Wars cantina, where they smoked perspective-enhancing alien pheromones through a laser hookah."

Our favourite nod though has to go to a moment in season three's Morty's Mind Blowers, which is highly memorable because of how disturbingly hilarious it is.

In a reference to Han Solo slicing open a Tauntaun in The Empire Strikes Back, this short gag sees Rick and Morty stuck on a planet that has fatally-cold temperatures at night. So, to keep them both warm, Rick cuts open the belly of their adorable animal friend, Beebo, and the two nestle themselves amongst its guts.

Moments later, Rick realises that he's made a mistake, and that he and Morty are actually on a different planet - so Beebo's brutal death was completely and utterly needless. Poor Beebo.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
