9. The Avengers (2012)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the largest expanded universe in movie history. Encompassing 27 movies with dozens of primary characters, working your way through them is one daunting undertaking. The studios have been pumping these films out for over a decade; with a further 12 planned or in development, there's no sign of them letting up fast.
It's fair to say that not every instalment has been a prime example of cinematic brilliance - we'll take another Guardians of the Galaxy over a new Captain America movie every time - and although it's exciting to see our most treasured superheroes interact with one another, it can get a little tedious. Having a dozen big name actors fighting for screen time, while simultaneously duking it out with hordes of bad guys, just gets confusing.
Luckily Tony Stark is never too far away from landing a sarcastic insult, or delivering a devastatingly witty remark to distract from the more indulgent action sequences. He's also developed a knack for conjuring up inventive nicknames for his fellow heroes. Admittedly comparing Hawkeye to Legolas isn't all that inventive or original, but having Iron Man tell Hawkeye to "Clench up, Legolas" as he propels him into the sky, is still pretty amusing.
