4. Only God Forgives
A lot of trailers are exciting for their suggested plots, their cast, the music tracks laid under them, or what have you. What I find particularly fantastic about this trailer for Only God Forgives, however, is the promise of beautiful lighting and production design. For all I know, the plot may fall through like The Purge's or Man of Steel's did. Heck, I'm not even that much of a Ryan Gosling fan. He's a good actor, but I'm not going to swoon over him in previews or trailers. As for the artistic design of this movie, though, the plethora and popularity of stills and gifs circulating (just check Tumblr; the hype is real) that were from the trailers alone really speak to where the impressive quality of the trailers lie. Some people, particularly we of the female sort, may be satisfied with Only God Forgives due to Ryan Gosling's presence alone, regardless of what other less important stuff, meaning major plot points and character development, is going on in the movie beyond Ryan's face. Or, if you're like me, you had to watch the trailer more than once not because of that charming Gosling fellow, not because the synthy music brings back heavy Drive flashbacks, but because you were to busy catching a glance and second glance at those stunning spaces. That prominent dragon face in Gosling's background at one of the cuts may give his own a run for its money in terms of how beautifully it can be framed.
