Emotion is a 40-minute short film directed by the great Nobuhiko Obayashi, following a young woman called Emi (Emi Tabata) who moves to a new city, meets her double, and later falls for a vampire.

Inscrutable and dreamlike, Emotion is an artistic venture that favours haunting imagery and mood over narrative and conventional storytelling, creating around Emi a tale constantly shifting between reality and dream, uncertainty and horrifying truth.

At turns terrifying, sexy, bittersweet and romantic, Obayashi's avant-garde character study is a tough film to understand, but it grips you in a vice grip all the same, forcing you to watch as Emi - innocent, displaced and doomed - loses her grip on what's real. Stylish, hypnotic, strange and beautiful, Emotion will stay with you forever.
