10 Big Changes The MCU Could Introduce In Phase 4
3. Time Travel Shakes Up The Status Quo
There will come a time when the stars behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe's key characters fly the coop, whether that's because they've gotten too old to get away with spandex, or they've decided to pursue new projects.
With this in mind, a soft reboot of the franchise is almost inevitable and Phase 4 could mark the beginning of a preemptive continuity shake-up. There's even a way that Marvel Studios could weave this into Avengers 4's narrative: time travel.
Let's say the Avengers and their allies lose the Infinity War. The next movie could see what's left of them travelling back in time in an attempt to undo the Mad Titan's gauntlet-powered meddling, and eventually rejig the MCU timeline.
Phase 4, as a result, could introduce the fans to a very different universe where certain character arcs never existed and others are forever changed. This would give Marvel the chance to recast certain roles and usher other heroes out entirely.
There is solid evidence that Avengers 4 will delve into the subject of time travel. Set leaks from the movie suggest it is revisiting key events from previous films, such as the Battle of New York, and you can bet this spells sweeping changes for Phase 4.
