10 Big Films From 2013 You've Probably Already Forgotten About

1. The Fifth Estate

U.S. Release Date: October 18th What was this about again? Tells the story of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and his former spokesperson Daniel Domscheit-Berg. This movie seemingly had everything going for it. A solid director, a strong cast, and timely subject matter. If it wasn't going to do big numbers at the box office, surely, it would garner some awards attention at the end of the year. As it turns out, neither of those things happened. It didn't just do poorly at the box office, it tanked, making only $3 million in the US and $8 worldwide against a $28 million budget. It did not receive much critical approval either, with many critics noting its lack of thrills and subtlety. This makes it especially unfortunate for the film's cast. Benedict Cumberbatch has been on the verge of breaking out the past two years. He gained a great amount of attention for his role in this year's "Star Trek Into Darkness" and "The Fifth Estate" was supposed to be the film that got him some serious awards attention. His co-star, Daniel Bruhl, was also supposed to have a big year. Weeks earlier, he had starred in Ron Howard's "Rush" which wound up being a flop at the box office despite positive reviews. While Bruhl has since received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in "Rush," neither that film nor "The Fifth Estate" did much to raise his profile with a general audience. How many movies on this list were still fresh in your mind? Are there any movies from this year that I did not mention that you keep forgetting existed? Also, how many of you had to Google "Here Comes the Boom" when I mentioned it at the beginning of this article? Yes, it was all part of the plan... anyway, leave your thoughts below!
