10 Big MCU Revelations That Didn’t Come From The Movies

1. Abomination Was An Avengers Candidate

In The Avengers, we see how heroes like Hulk, Cap and Iron Man are recruited for the Avengers Initiative, with Romanoff visiting Banner to convince him to join the team, and Coulson attempting to persuade Tony. The assumption here is that SHIELD and the World Security Council had various different candidates in mind, and one of their earliest picks may surprise you.

In The Consultant - Marvel's first One-Shot short film, released on the home media discs for Thor - Coulson and Jasper Sitwell meet in a diner to discuss an urgent matter: the future of Emil Blonsky, aka The Abomination. Their problem is that the World Security Council wants him to be released from prison so he can join the Avengers, and for obvious reasons (chief among them being that he's an unhinged murderer) Coulson wants to stop this from happening.

This results in Coulson and Sitwell sending Tony Stark to meet General Ross, which we saw in The Incredible Hulk's post-credits scene.

At this time, Ross had Blonsky in his custody, so the plan was for Tony - the "Consultant" of the short's title - to annoy Ross and persuade him to not let Blonsky out of prison. This plan was a success (thankfully) and Blonsky remained behind bars.

While it would have been intriguing to see him butt heads with Tony, Cap, Hulk, Widow, Hawkeye and Thor, Abomination's incarceration was definitely for the best.
