10 Big MCU Revelations That Didn’t Come From The Movies

6. Banner And Romanoff Aren't Together

One of Avengers: Age Of Ultron's most contentious inclusions was the addition of a romantic subplot between Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff. Despite being well-acted, it felt a little forced and out-of-place, especially considering the pair had never shown this kind of affection towards each other in the past.

And as if to demonstrate how throwaway this whole storyline was, when the two were reunited in Infinity War - after years apart - they just, sort of, stared at each other, and didn't say a word. Okay then. This raised many questions about their relationship (do they have a romantic one? Are they just friends? Is it on hold?) that the movie did not address, which is understandable, given how much plot it already had to cram in.

But those questions still remain. Banner and Romanoff: what's their current relationship status? Well, if the Russo Brothers are to be believed (and they are) don't expect to hear wedding bells anytime soon: during a 2018 Q&A (via GeekTyrant), the directors touched on the Bruce/Nat subject, and things don't sound too good:

"Look, he disappeared for two years. She's pretty self-sufficient, she didn't wait around for him. There's sort of unspoken truth that there's [no] need to be a spoken resolution."

In the same discussion, the directors also stated that the whole storyline was a Joss Whedon decision, which basically means that they've been handed his baggage, and "unspoken truth" means they don't want to deal with it. Fair enough, really.
