10 Biggest MCU Controversies Ever

Never underestimate the ability of racists to throw their toys out of their pram and whine to the high heavens any time a white character from the comics is played by somebody not-white.

The MCU has had to weather two major hate campaigns from bigots in this stead, first and foremost when Thor's Heimdall was announced to be played by Idris Elba.

Complainers couched their "concerns" in the belief that it didn't make sense for a Black person to portray a Norse God, no matter that the MCU is a wildly fantastical universe where a character's race will never be among the 25 most unrealistic and ridiculous things we're seeing.

Above all else, who really gives a s**t?

This all kicked off again - though not quite so vociferously - when it was revealed at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming that Zendaya, a Black woman, was playing the MCU's version of Mary Jane Watson, a white woman in the comics.

Beyond the fact that the MCU's version of MJ has a different name, Michelle Jones-Watson, does MJ's race have anything to do with her characterisation and portrayal? Not at all.

In this case the racists couldn't even hide behind the veil of "historical authenticity," and so the online moaning died out relatively quickly following the film's release.
