4. Bucky Killing Iron Man's Parents
In Captain America: Civil War, Baron Zemo formulated a plan to break up the Avengers forever. When his original plan failed, he revealed one last thing to Tony Stark in a last-ditch effort to turn him against the team. Zemo showed him footage that proved that Tony’s parents, Howard and Maria Stark, were actually killed by Captain America’s best friend, Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier.
Captain America admitted to Iron Man that he knew what happened but, presumably, kept it a secret to protect Bucky, as he was not in control of his own actions at the time and was acting simply as a puppet for HYDRA. Tony was aware of this but, clouded by his emotion, lashed out at Captain America, giving Baron Zemo exactly what he wanted.
This reveal came as a shock to Iron Man and audiences alike! Knowing that Bucky was the killer of Tony’s parents really shows us the horror that he had to endure as the Winter Soldier. We begin to see some closure in his life in Falcon And The Winter Soldier, though Tony and him never got to make amends on screen unfortunately.
