In comic books, no one ever really dies. This much we know. Its a by-product of the fact that writers and illustrators have long been tasked with finding new story arcs and viable changes of direction for characters who have been around for decades. As such, superheroes can come back from the dead in fantastical fashion or assume a new guise or start over with someone else donning the tights with minimal fuss. Films, however, are a different beast, and its perfectly understandable if filmmakers and studios are reluctant to risk killing off immensely valuable cash cows. Still, the invulnerability of the MCUs star players has become a frequent criticism, and one thats well justified. Placing heroes in jeopardy only to see them prevail is a staple of action films, but Marvel Studios have taken the trope and the tease too far. Its reached the point where there is no real sense of danger when Tony Stark carries a nuclear warhead through a portal into outer space or Loki supposedly breathes his last breath, and its fast reaching the point where its easier to name a major character that hasnt died than those who have. The only character of even remote significance to be killed off thus far is Frigga, and she was so overlooked in both Thor movies as to render her death a trifling matter that carried no real emotional clout. Had The Winter Soldier followed through on Nick Furys purported demise, that would have been an entirely different matter. Any other MCU gripes to air, or gripes about these entries, for that matter? Bombs away below.
I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
