10 Biggest Movie And TV News This Week (April 26)

1. The New Star Wars Films Won't Draw From Expanded Universe

Sorry Thrawn Trilogy fans, but it looks like JJ Abrams won't be using the Expanded Universe for Star Wars: Episode VII, or any of the upcoming films for that matter. Despite being a beloved and integral part of the Star Wars mythos for countless fans, it is not being considered "canon" for the upcoming films, though Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy promises that "it is not being discarded." The decision has been made in order to give the creators of the upcoming films more creative freedom. Now, they won't be tied to stories written that took place in a post-Return of the Jedi Star Wars continuity. The EU content will still remain in circulation, but will now be presented under a new banner called Star Wars Legends. Lucasfilm released an official statement about the decision on Friday, which you can read here. That's it for this week, folks! Tell us, what do you think of this news? Are you sad to see the Expanded Star Wars Universe go, or are you glad we'll be getting new content in the films? How about Ray Fisher's casting for Batman Vs. Superman, or the idea of a Ben-Hur remake? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to follow me on Twitter for more news as it develops throughout the week.
