10. Greta Gerwig Headlining How I Met Your Dad For CBS

Gretagerwig600 How I Met Your Mother is quickly drawing to a close, but studio executives don't want to give up the show's dedicated audience just yet. Back in November CBS ordered a pilot for a spinoff, How I Met Your Dad, and on Tuesday we got word from Deadline that Greta Gerwig has been tapped to headline the show. How I Met Your Dad will focus on a new group of friends living in New York City, and explore the road to marriage through the female perspective. The show will likely use the same structure and spirit as HIMYM, and is even being directed/produced by some of the same people. Gerwig has become an indie darling over the years, making waves in 2013 thanks to her starring role in Frances Ha, which garnered her a Golden Globe nomination for best actress. She won't only star in the sitcom but will write and direct it as well, which is a good sign for the show. Of course, the series will have a lot to prove to skeptical audiences who feel this is just a blatant cash-grab from the studio; and will have to find a way to set itself apart from HIMYM with more than just a gender swap.
