8. Original Flash Actor John Wesley Shipp Cast In CW's Flash Pilot
Speaking of DC comics characters rushing to the small screen, Arrow's Flash spinoff has a pilot order on The CW, and has now cast John Wesley Shipp, who played the scarlet speedster in the short-lived 1990's Flash show on CBS, in a mystery role. Fans immediately began speculating that Shipp could be playing Jay Garrick, who some may remember was the original Golden Age Flash in the comics. DC chief creative officer (and executive producer on the show) has been coy on Twitter about Shipp's role, which has only added fuel to the fire. If he isn't playing Garrick, he could very well be playing Barry Allen's father, who has been falsely imprisoned for the murder of Barry's mother. Either role would make sense, and THR reports that Shipp's role will be recurring (if the show gets picked up for a series, of course). On one hand, Garrick's involvement in the show would be great to see and a fun nod to fans, but on the other, Shipp playing Barry's dad makes logical sense. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, as production continues swiftly moving along for its hopeful 2014 premiere.
