10 Biggest Movie And TV News This Week (Jan 25)

7. Hugh Jackman And Garrett Hedlund Join Peter Pan Origin Film

Hookandblackbeard Thanks to successful film franchises like The Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings, pirates and fantasy are all the rave, and we've got several projects utilizing both genres coming in the near future. Some films, like Joe Wright's Peter Pan origin, will merge both. The film will be a prequel to J.M. Barrie's original story, and shows Pan and Captain Hook as close friends who face off against the evil Blackbeard. Hook works on Blackbeard's ship, and along the way a rift forms between the two friends that leads to their infamous rivalry. We've been hearing casting rumors for quite a while now, with names like Ryan Gosling and Javier Bardem being the biggest. However, we got final confirmation this week that Hugh Jackman and Garrett Hedlund have been cast, as Blackbeard and Hook, respectively. This is the first time we've seen Jackman in a villain role, so that will be fun to see. Peter Pan himself has yet to be cast, though the film will start production soon as the film heads toward its July 17, 2015 release date (taking the spot that Batman Vs. Superman just vacated).
