10 Biggest New Cliches Of Modern Horror Movies

1. Trying To Be Bad On Purpose

The entire SyFy channel is made of this trope. Cheesy horror films are always amusing to watch and make fun of, as evidenced by the popularity of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and there's nothing better than sitting back with some friends and watching something hilariously terrible. That's only really the case if the film wasn't intended to be cheesy, though. Bad movies are funny when they're the work of people genuinely trying to make something scary, but it just fails miserably. You crack up at the poor special effects, costumes, acting, dialogue, etc. In other words, you're laughing at the movie. In recent years, so many films actually set out to be "so bad they're good," intentionally silly and terrible. Sharknado is a notable one, and as fun as those can be, it's clear by the sequels that nobody involved thinks they're making anything good. Now, you're laughing with the movie. A horror film that doesn't take itself too seriously can be amusing, but there are far too many filmmakers putting in no effort to crank out horrible B-movies in hopes that they'll automatically become cult hits online. Sorry, everyone who made Lavalantula: that's just not how it works. Spotted any more? Share yours in the comments thread below.
