10 Biggest Oscar Goofs Of All Time

4. Music By Prudence

You might not recall the name Music By Prudence, but the 2010 Best Documentary Short winner stirred up a lot of fuss during the 82nd awards. As director Roger Ross Williams began his acceptance speech, he was blindsided by producer Elinor Burkett, who said “The man never lets the woman talk. Isn’t that just the classic thing?” before beginning her own monologue about role models within the industry.

Despite being the movie’s creator, Burkett sued Williams after she was fired from working on Music By Prudence. As the film started to pick up Oscar buzz, Burkett was not subsequently invited to any of the surrounding awards ceremonies, and Burkett even claims that Williams’ mother tried to physically block her from receiving the award.

Although Burkett seems somewhat justified in her awards speech revenge, it’s hard not to feel a little sorry for Williams, whose previously prepared speech would go unused, and whose film would ultimately be best remembered for this Oscar-flavoured moment of Kanye West-ing.
