10 Biggest Oscar Goofs Of All Time
5. A New Lowe For The Oscars
The Oscars are often opened with or broken up by a series of musical or comedic performances, the intention behind them being that they’ll lighten the mood of what would otherwise be a four hour back-patting convention.
Unfortunately, not everyone can be Neil Patrick Harris, a lesson Rob Lowe learned during the 1989 awards ceremony. The West Wing actor took to the stage alongside a young actress called Eileen Bowman, she playing the Snow White to his Prince Charming.
Lowe struggled valiantly to sing in tune with Snow White, as the two embarked upon a dreadful altered rendition of Proud Mary. The footage is painful to watch back today, and serves as a handy reminder that we’ve got it pretty good as far as Oscars presentation goes (Seth McFarlane and James Franco notwithstanding).
Having already attracted a wave of negative attention thanks to a sex tape scandal the year before, a tone-deaf Snow White duet stands as only the second most embarrassing thing to happen to Rob Lowe during the 1980s.
