10 Biggest Parts Of The Marvel Movie Formula (That Will Destroy The Series)

2. One-Shot Villains

The weakest thing about the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole has to be the villains. Although they've crafted an incredible roster of heroes, the villains have been run-of-the-mill with two notable exceptions. Loki and the Winter Soldier aside, who are strengthened by having appearances in more than one movie being offed (and the latter's really an anti-hero in the grand scheme of things), every villain has been forgettable. Guys in bigger Iron Man suits, monologuing dark lords and hoards of faceless goons don't fill us with confidence Thanos can be pulled off convincingly. The epitome of this has to be Malekith. Christopher Eccleston is a great actor and the story of the Dark Elves is an enticing one that suits a Thor (rather than Avengers) story, but he was poorly explained and underused, resulting in him serving as a subplot to the Thor and Loki brother strife. This certainly isn't helped by the fact that most of Marvel's best-known villains are tied up with other studios (Magneto and Dr Doom are with Fox and Sony has Spider-Man's rogues gallery), but if you can make Captain America and Rocket Racoon both into convincing movie heroes with mainstream appeal, how hard is it to get a villain not played by Tom Hiddleston right?
