10 Biggest Plot-Changing Movie Phone Calls

7. Dial M For Murder

Ghostface On Phone
Warner Bros.

When laying out a plot to murder an adulterous wife, it's best to keep things simple and have an airtight alibi. Unfortunately, tennis pro Ray Milland planned every moment leading up to his wife's (Grace Kelly) killing to the last detail. But when you get so bogged down in details, you're bound to forget a few loose ends.

On its face, Milland's plan is solid: blackmail an old friend-turned-petty criminal into committing the crime while he phones home from a party, firmly assuring he was nowhere near the scene.

In the end, all that really tripped Milland up was a watch off by three minutes and a surprisingly adept Kelly, who manages to overpower her attacker. By the time Milland comes home to cover up any remaining evidence of his involvement, it's just a matter of time before he slips up.

Kenny Hedges is carbon-based. So I suppose a simple top 5 in no order will do: Halloween, Crimes and Misdemeanors, L.A. Confidential, Billy Liar, Blow Out He has his own website - thefilmreal.com - and is always looking for new writers with differing views to broaden the discussion.
