10 Biggest Problems Star Wars: Rogue One Faces (And How Lucasfilm Can Fix Them)
1. The Shadow Of The Force Awakens
The Problem: Rogue One comes hot on the heels of The Force Awakens, which at first seems to be a massive boom. Star Wars is back with Force, and now couldn't be a better time to release a new movie, right? Well, yes, but there's also dreaded comparisons, which are only going to hurt a movie pitched on being the exact opposite to lightsaber-fuelled adventure.
And even if Rogue One winds up a better movie, there's simply no way it will be able to come close to Episode VII's $2 billion box office haul (I'd say one billion would be pretty phenomenal), and that can only lead to unflattering comparisons.
How They Can Fix It: Put simply, they can't. As the return of Star Wars to cinemas after ten years (nobody counts The Clone Wars) with a movie people had been waiting for for thirty (one that brought back the original trio too), there was no way The Force Awakens could have been a bigger event. While Rogue One is certainly a hotly anticipated movie in Star Wars circles and has a delectable tie to the original, it just can't replicate that.
And so they shouldn't try. Disney and Lucasfilm shouldn't go into Rogue One wanting or expecting something to rival The Force Awakens (let Episode VIII) do that). Instead, allow it to be what it needs to be; an alternative offshoot from the main saga. If some people grumble, let them. Nothing can fault confidence.
Do you think any of these are major problems for Rogue One, or with Lucasfilm be just fine? Have your say down in the comments.
